Group Workouts

Tired of working out alone?  Not sure what workouts to do or if you’re doing them correctly? Need something to get you out the door? Want to meet more runners in Charlotte?  Come join Ascent Running’s Group Workouts!  All ability and experience levels welcome!

What

Each week there will be a different workout for the group such as intervals, speed work, hill repeats, fartleks and tempo runs.

Where

Irwin Belk Track Complex located on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University adjacent to I-277 & I-77 in Charlotte, NC. Directions to the track

Who

You! Workouts will be designed for all ability and experience levels. Don't worry if you've never heard of a fartlek or tempo before, all workouts are explained in detail before the workout and can be discussed afterwards.

When

Workouts are held twice weekly, Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm and Thursday morning at 6:00 AM. It is suggested to arrive a few minutes early. If you are on a tight time schedule in the morning, feel free to start your warm up jog before 6 am.

Former professional runner, current American Record holder, and coach Christo Landry will be overseeing the group workouts.

What should I bring?  Yourself!  A watch!  It can be normal watch (what I use) or a smart watch with GPS.  When’s it’s hot a water bottle.  When it’s cold gloves, hat and sufficient clothing.  When it’s raining a towel and change of clothes for after the run (there are bathroom facilities) to stay warm and dry.  If you want to go super fast, a pair of flats or spikes for later in the workout.

Parking:  It is recommended to park on the side of the streets surrounding the entrance/driveway down to the track. While there is some parking down the driveway next to the track, that is usually full and there is a gate that could be closed to lock you in.
